Covered Portage

This is Indian head at Covered Portage
  Covered Portage Anchorage

On our way back from the North Channel this summer on board Wavelength, I mentioned to Brad that I had yet  to make it into Killarney. Seems each time coming or going we had bypassed this port. So this time we made a point of stopping by. We decided to anchor in Covered Portage and dingy into town for fish and chips. It was a short trip into town as the sky was threatening. We did dingy through the channel checking out the boats, making it back before it started to pour. We also spent some time dingying around Covered Portage visiting with one other Bayfield harbour boat and an interesting gentleman on another from Kincardine.

We anchored out near the rock cliffs that when viewed from the right angle looks like an Indian head. From our vantage point we could see it clearly as we swung on our anchor. I really liked this location and hope to visit it again in the future...George

Inside the inner bay one can see the high cliffs surrounding the boats. Most boater anchoring out spend some time ashore following the trails up the cliffs. I recall a photo taken by Dave Bannister of his boat at anchor taken from the cliffs...a great view.
The is the view of the Indian head wall from Brads boat.
There is a rock ridge that juts out into the bay that divides the inner and outer locations.
This photo is looking out into the outer portion of the bay. The Bayfield 40' home port is Bayfield, Ont. We stopped by for a chat. There was about 5 or 6 boats in each area on our layover.
