Concrete Halloween

The girls filled a kids plastic trick or treat bucket from Target with cement.....using it as a mold.
Susanne and her sister Laura got together one afternoon to make some concrete Halloween decorations....here is what they came up with....George

The left over cement went into plastic gloves which became hands.....just peel the gloves back once dry.
Here we see Susanne planting her hands in our daughter's (Jessica's) garden.

Friday Roadtrip

A pumpkin patch along Guelph Line near Campbellville, Ont.
On Friday Susanne and I headed out to Ikea in Burlington, Ont. and Whole Food in Oakville. It was a really nice sunny day so we decided to head out into the rural areas of Burlington, Milton and Campbellville on our way back up to the 401. The views are from our stops along the way......a lot nicer than freeway all the way home......George

Springridge Farm just off Derry Line. We have not been here in a decade.
We followed a pickup truck load of raindeer's into Springridge. The gentleman who makes there is from Acton.
Our car along the roadway next to a pumpkin patch in rural Milton.
There might be leftover this season.

Stormy Days at Bayfield

Compare this view with the one before the storm. The fire pit and log benchs are all gone...along with most of the firewood. There used to be a wooden walkway built into the sand bank which also had solar lights attached...they are all gone also.

A couple of weeks ago a good blow went through Bayfield. Luckily I had my boat out already when it came through. I did show up the day after to put my cover on. I posted a photo by my friend Brad a couple of weeks ago of the water up to the high marks. I was suprised to see the amount of the beach and berm that had been washed away...the power of water...George.

I took this photo on the Labour day weekend of the firewood pile. One can see the firepit and log benches. All is gone including the firewood.

The sand bank that once sloped to the beach is now a cliff about 6 feet high. Some of the firewood washed down the beach a bit.

Back from New England

Taftsville, Vermont covered bridge near Woodstock, Vt.
This past week Susanne and I spent a few days wandering around Vermont and Massachusetts. We took in Yankee Candle in Deerfield Mass., a drive down the Mohawk trail through the Berkshire mountains of upper Mass. and through the middle of Vermont from White River Junction to Rutland. The weather was had was a real mix of rain, sun and lots of overcast each day, but the colours still showed well. The best in years the local weatherman stated. Spending time in Vermont seems to return one to simpler times. You don't see the hurry one does in other locations....George

Old Deerfield Mass. village a town that is well over 300 years old.
A look from above North Adams, Mass. on the Mohawk trail.
Wood carver on Route 7 New York.
Susanne takes a walk through the covered bridge at the Vermont General Store, Vermont
Have you ever stopped by the local garage on main street were they actually works on buggies instead of cars.....well go to Bellows Falls, Vermont then.

Something warm

If one is lakeside this weekend enjoy it with something warm, a great book, a cozy fire and of coarse with your special somebody.

Fall Storms

The waves were up to high mark along the shoreline and actually washed some of the bank away this week. There was a nice pile of chopped firewood along the bank which is now out to sea.
Brad sent me this photo from the Wednesday blow on Lake Huron. As one can see there is no beach on this particular day.....I am sure glad my boat is out already.....George

Lake Michigan Facts

Lake Michigan is the only Great Lake that is entirely within the borders of the US. The largest fresh water sand dunes in the world line the shores of Lake Michigan. Because water enters and exits Lake Michigan through the same path, it takes 77 years longer for the water to replace itself than in Lake Huron, despite their similarity in size and depth. ( Lake Michigan, 99 years, Lake Huron, 22 years.)

Apple and Pumpkins

Owen fills the bag with apples.
Last Friday Susanne and I took our grandson Owen out on a sunny warm morning to pick a bag of apples and check out the pumpkin patch for a few good ones for our grand-kids....George

Think there are better ones over here.
Grandma found a good one.
Owen checks out the pumpkin patch.

Bayfield Beaver

A local beaver out for a early evening swim.
The last evening Susanne and I stayed at the lake we spotted a beaver swimming through our basin. I was in the process of taking our dog for a walk. The beaver swam right under the ramp as we walked up it with no concern about us. I did get a couple of photos. I was told a few years back a beaver was living under our floating dock and had made a home there. This one lives inland just past the highway 21 overpass......George

This beaver swam around the whole lakefront basin before heading out into the river once again.

Driftwood Mirror

I have seen many of these mirror's when Susanne gets me out shopping in towns along the shoreline. I always say I can make that.....well maybe I should......there is a ton of driftwood on the beach lately.....stay tuned.....George

Seems as you need some wire, driftwood and a mirror. A little drilling to be done though.
