"Sailing, Simplicity, and the Pursuit of Happiness" began in 2008 when a really young Teresa Carey gave up a job, home and many other things, to lived aboard and sail away on a small sailboat named Daphne, a Nor'Sea 27 with her cat Dory. For two years she sailed, explored, and discovered what simple living meant to her and shared it all on this blog. She sold her boat in 2011, got married and now is looking for a new boat. Her blogs goals currently are to share meaningful thoughts on simple living, to help sailors with life aboard, and to inspire others to chase their own dreams. I believe this year she is one of the guest speakers at the Annapolis sailboat show held this coming weekend. Check out her blog at the link below. California Surfing

During 2010 we stayed for a week on Sunset Beach which is a part of Huntington Beach, California. This old boy shows off his long board before he puts it away after a day surfing. We could see this action from our ocean view hotel room patio.

Surfing the West Coast, USA

Susanne and I have made three trips to California since 2006 visiting with our daughter's in-laws. Two of these trips included Dee and Kyle, one including our granddaughter. Over the past decade, we have become good  friends with Kyle's parents, Murray and Nancy....we have enjoying our visits with them in California and here in Ontario. During our visits to California we have spent a lot of our time along the coastline. Many of these location are surfing oriented. Here are a few views of the ocean side lifestyle.....George 

The long board is put away on his vintage 1958 station waggon. We were staying at the Ramada Inn which one can see in the background. Our room faced the public parking lot and the beach.

This photo of a surfer getting his board out of his trunk was in Oceanside, Ca., Sept. 2006. There is a large pier that can be seen in the background. The best surfing is near the pier. We stayed on the beach with a nice view of this location.

I took this photo in downtown Oceanside. Oceanside it the location of the Surfing "Hall of Fame"......which is actually around the corner from this spot.

 I took this photo the last day of May in 2010. There was a good size crowd on the north pier so I took a few silhouette style photos. I think this one turned out the best including a smooching couple near the end of the pier.....George

Ready for Haulout

Yesterday was my last day sailing out on the lake...actually it was on Brad's boat once I got my chores done in the morning... After a pump-out, and fuel top up,  a short trip down the river was in order to checkout which boats are still in...I actually had to heat up the engine for my oil change, which was a good reason for a tour...the sails were removed, engine oil changed and water system winterised. Next Friday the boat comes out...George

Bayfield Pillows

In late August I was watching City TV "Home Day". On this particular day the guest designer was Karen Sealy. Karen was explaining her bunkies which are sleeper cabins next to her cottage. She is a sailor also and everything inside was compact or has dual use. At the end of the segment she displayed and made mention of the Bayfield pillows offered by the town as a fund raiser. I though they were neat and picked up one for our boat. They are a quality feather filled linen covered pillow. I noted them also for sale at the Bayfield town docks office while getting fuel and pump-out yesterday. Check the link below and scroll down....George
