Seaweed Craft Beer in Maine

Marshall Wharf Brewing could be a favorite when visiting Belfast, Maine. They sell their beer in “Growlers” and olde fashioned term that “likely dates back to the late 19th century when fresh beer was carried from the local pub to one’s home by means of a small galvanized pail. It is claimed the sound that the CO₂ made when it escaped from the lid as the beer sloshed around sounded like a growl.” Barley Wine is one of their best and this new seaweed brew sounds like it’s worth a trip to back to Maine for a taste.

More craft breweries are using exotic ingredients in their creations these days. There are ales made with all kinds of fruit, beers infused with coriander and other spices, stouts brewed with oysters — even beer made from yeast scraped off 35 million-year-old whale bones. But what about a beer made with seaweed?

At Marshall Wharf Brewing Co. on the Belfast, Maine, waterfront, new beers begin their journey into draft lines and pint glasses inside two large tanks. Marshall Wharf has a reputation for making some unconventional beers — a stout with locally sourced oysters, for example, and a wheat-infused kolsch with jalapeno and habanero peppers.....George

VetFest 2014

Bayfield once again hosted VestFest on Saturday July 5th. These sure was a lot to see from mid 50's to brand new Vets. One can dream.....George

Tall Ships in Bayfield

The two tall ships are joined by a few of the local fleet during a late afternoon sailpast on Thursday.

Thursday evening the tall ships arrived in Bayfield. One spent the afternoon sailing out front of the harbour till the second one arrived. Although the first ship was tied up to the south pier by 6pm the second ship was still out sailing at 730pm when I left for home....George

If one waited long enough a close up photo could be had as the tall ships pass along the Bayfield shoreline.

If one gets down low enough and angles the camera into a puddle......one may be surprised by a neat reflection of the sky in it....give it a try without getting wet.

We had some rain earlier in the day and some puddles remained. Out on the pier I thought I would use one puddle to reflect the great looking evening sky in one of my views......George
